Goa's Electricity Department Launches ₹1,500 Crore Infrastructure Upgrade Amid Rising Demand
Goa's Electricity Department has initiated infrastructure upgrades exceeding ₹1,500 crore to enhance power supply reliability. This initiative is crucial as peak demand has surged to 820 MW, influenced by increased tourism and seasonal factors.

The Electricity Department of Goa is undertaking infrastructure improvements valued at over ₹1,500 crore in response to a peak power demand of nearly 820 MW. Completed projects exceeding ₹610 crore include substation upgrades and distribution enhancements.
Remaining initiatives, which focus on transmission enhancement, underground cabling, and smart metering, are at various execution stages. Key projects include a ₹610 crore underground cabling scheme and a ₹200 crore strengthening of the 220 KV network.
Smart meter installations valued at around ₹800 crore are also progressing. These upgrades aim to meet rising electricity demand and improve system reliability ahead of the monsoon season.
