Golyan Group Expands Renewable Energy Portfolio in Nepal with 14-Project Pipeline by 2030

HYDRO POWER

Akshay Golyan leads the Golyan Group, one of Nepal's key private investors in renewable energy, aiming for over 700 megawatts of capacity by 2030. The group currently operates a 36-megawatt hydropower plant on the Balephi River and is developing several additional projects, including the 46-megawatt Upper Balephi plant and a 97.2-megawatt project in eastern Nepal.

Combined, their hydropower assets exceed 320 megawatts. Golyan advocates for policy changes that would allow independent producers to sell electricity directly to manufacturers, suggesting it would lower costs and boost GDP.

His approach contrasts with traditional inheritance, as he gained hands-on experience in the family business since joining in 2017, starting from the factory floor and learning operations. Originally intending to pursue a career in luxury hospitality after completing his MBA, he returned to Kathmandu at his family's request.
