Gomti Barrage in Lucknow Transitioning to SCADA-Based Operations
The Uttar Pradesh government is implementing SCADA technology at Gomti Barrage to enhance flood management and drinking water supply. This modernization aims to facilitate real-time monitoring and automation to improve operational efficiency and safety.
The Gomti Barrage in Lucknow will adopt SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) technology to enhance its operations. This project, initiated by the Uttar Pradesh Irrigation Department under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's directives, includes the phased replacement of ageing vertical gates, with two already replaced in 2024 and four in 2025.
A 45-day shutdown has been scheduled from May 8 to June 15 to facilitate repairs and gate replacements while ensuring that water supply to the Kudia Ghat pumping station remains uninterrupted through a cofferdam. The newly designed gates, manufactured in Bareilly, are engineered for durability and stability. The transition to an automated system aims to minimize human error and improve responsiveness during emergencies, which is crucial for maintaining the city's water supply.
