Google Establishes Data Center in Pine Island, Minnesota with Xcel Energy to Enhance Clean Energy Capacity
Google has announced the establishment of a data center in Pine Island, Minnesota, in collaboration with Xcel Energy. The project will introduce 1,900 megawatts of new clean energy, including 1,400 MW of wind, 200 MW of solar, and 300 MW of iron-air battery storage. Google will cover all costs related to the electric service and contribute $50 million to Xcel's Capacity*Connect Program. This partnership aims to bolster the local economy while advancing Minnesota's carbon reduction goals through a Clean Energy Accelerator Charge (CEAC).

Google will build a data center in Pine Island, Minnesota, supported by Xcel Energy, which will provide power to the facility. Together, they will add 1,900 megawatts of clean energy, including 1,400 MW of wind, 200 MW of solar, and 300 MW of iron-air battery storage.
Google is responsible for all electric service costs and will invest $50 million in Xcel's Capacity*Connect Program to enhance grid reliability. This initiative aligns with Minnesota's carbon reduction objectives and aims to ensure local customers are not burdened by increased costs due to the project. The Electric Service Agreement requires approval from the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission.
