Google is investing $2 billion to expand its data center in Jackson County, Alabama, with plans to complete the project by 2027. This expansion includes a $1.5 billion investment to enhance capacity for AI and cloud services, alongside a power purchase agreement for up to 50 megawatts of advanced nuclear energy from Kairos Power and TVA.
The site, previously a coal plant, will support over 300 megawatts of new generation capacity. Community initiatives include a $2 million Energy Impact Fund and a $550,000 donation for STEM education. This expansion may influence Alabama's position in advanced energy infrastructure and further attract tech investments.
