Google, Meta, and McKinsey Contract 131,240 Tonnes of CDR with Living Carbon
The Symbiosis Coalition's members, Google, Meta, and McKinsey, have partnered with Living Carbon to contract 131,240 tonnes of carbon dioxide removal over a decade, supporting reforestation efforts in degraded U.S. lands. This collaboration aims to restore abandoned mine lands and agricultural areas, enhancing biodiversity and local community involvement.

Google, Meta, and McKinsey have entered into agreements with Living Carbon to procure 131,240 tonnes of carbon dioxide removal (CDR) over 10 years. These contracts will facilitate large-scale reforestation on degraded lands in the Appalachian region, specifically targeting abandoned mine sites and unproductive agricultural areas.
The project aims to restore approximately 1.6 million acres of mine land and 30 million acres of agricultural land in the U.S. through strategic planting of native hardwood and pine species, improving soil and water quality, and enhancing local biodiversity. The initiative is expected to create employment opportunities within local communities and support ecological recovery. This project is part of a broader commitment by Symbiosis to secure over 20 million tonnes of nature-based carbon removal credits by 2030.
