Google Plans First Data Center in France Amid Regional Investment Surge
Google is set to establish its first data center in France, located in Châteauroux, with a €58.5 million investment and support from a new high-voltage power line by RTE by 2027. The region is experiencing a surge in investments, including another data center by Deknet and a new factory by Jacobi, while the defense industry is expanding production of Caesar cannons. However, local businesses are struggling with inflation and trade uncertainties, resulting in layoffs at some companies.

In 2025, significant investments flowed into the region, highlighted by Google's proposed first French data center in Châteauroux, covering 195 hectares with an investment of €58.5 million for the land. A high-voltage power line, to be installed by RTE by 2027, will support this project.
Another data center by Deknet is set to launch in Buzançais by 2027, with an investment of €30 million and the creation of approximately 15 jobs. Additionally, Jacobi invested €30 million in a new factory in Vierzon, while Satys in Châteauroux is expanding with a €15 million investment.
The defense industry is also booming, with KNDS tripling production of Caesar cannons from two to six per month, aiming for eight. A €10 million plan over three years has been introduced to develop training programs. However, some local businesses face difficulties due to inflation, international trade uncertainties, and austerity measures, leading to layoffs in companies like Artémide and Ceva Logistics.
