Google is planning to establish a large data center in Étrechet, near Châteauroux, acquiring 195 hectares for €58.5 million. The project, which could require over 500 MW of power, aims for a final decision by June 2026.

Local efforts include training programs at the IUT of Châteauroux to prepare future employees. Concerns exist regarding the actual job numbers, estimated at 200 direct jobs based on the size of the center.

The local electrical infrastructure is inadequate, necessitating upgrades projected to begin in 2032, with costs near €300 million. This has raised skepticism among locals about the project's viability.
