GPS Renewables to Construct India's First Ethanol-to-Jet SAF Plant in Andhra Pradesh
GPS Renewables has secured an EPC contract from NTPC to establish India's inaugural ethanol-to-jet Sustainable Aviation Fuel plant, set to produce 1,800 TPA of SAF. This initiative, located at NTPC's Green Hydrogen Hub, aims to advance India's clean energy transition and capitalize on the country's robust ethanol ecosystem.

GPS Renewables (GPSR) will construct India's first Ethanol-to-Jet (ETJ) Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) plant, producing 1,800 tonnes per annum (TPA) of SAF from ethanol derived from CO2. This project, awarded by NTPC (National Thermal Power Corporation) Limited, is at the NTPC Green Energy Limited's Green Hydrogen Hub in Andhra Pradesh and is scheduled for completion by March 2029, including one year of operational support post-commissioning.
Lummus Technology and Xytel India will assist with technology licensing, engineering, and detailed process design. The SAF production will utilize a proven process chain involving ethanol-to-ethylene conversion, olefins oligomerisation, and hydroprocessing. This venture signifies a strategic step toward sustainable aviation fuel production in India, which could influence global deployment and reduce aviation sector emissions.
