Grande Tianjin: A Strategic Advancement in Global Automotive Transportation
The Grande Tianjin, the first of seven new Pure Car and Truck Carriers (PCTCs) commissioned by the Grimaldi Group, has been officially delivered at Shanghai's Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Company Limited (SWS). This milestone not only marks the 600th vessel constructed by SWS but also underscores an enhanced partnership between Grimaldi and Leapmotor International, a joint venture aimed at distributing Leapmotor vehicles across Europe and other strategic markets, including India, the Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, Africa, and South America.
With a length of 200 meters and a width of 38 meters, the Grande Tianjin boasts a gross tonnage of approximately 77,500 tons and a cargo capacity of 9,241 Car Equivalent Units (CEU). The vessel is equipped to transport both electric and traditional fuel vehicles, along with other rolling cargo.
It features state-of-the-art technology, including a new generation MAN electronic engine, which minimizes fuel consumption and meets stringent international emissions standards. Notably, the design of the Grande Tianjin allows for a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions per cargo unit by up to 50% compared to previous-generation PCTCs.
The shipás delivery ceremony included significant figures from SWS, Leapmotor, and Grimaldi, highlighting the collaboration's importance. Emanuele Grimaldi emphasized the commitment to sustainable and efficient vehicle transport along key global routes, particularly those connecting Asia to the rest of the world. The Grande Tianjin is also prepared for future conversion to ammonia as an alternative zero-emission fuel and is equipped for shore power supply during port stays.
In conclusion, the Grande Tianjin not only enhances Grimaldi's fleet but also represents a crucial step towards sustainable maritime transport, reinforcing the strategic ties between Europe and Asia in the automotive supply chain.
