Granite Renewables Proposes Data Center in Logan County, Colorado with Potential 2 GW Electricity Demand

Granite Renewables is planning a data center in Logan County, Colorado, which may require up to 2 gigawatts of electricity. This demand is significant as Colorado Springs Utilities had a peak demand of just over 1 gigawatt in July 2024.

The proposed project would involve a $15 billion capital investment and occupy approximately 4,000 acres, potentially integrating solar farms and battery storage. Logan County has imposed a moratorium on data centers and renewable projects to establish regulations.

The planning commission has recommended guidelines, which will be reviewed by county commissioners on January 6. The area, currently dominated by agriculture, could benefit from the economic impact of the center, though it faces competition from other states with more established data center facilities.
