Grayslake T5 Data Center Project Faces Potential Legal Opposition
The Grayslake T5 data center project may face litigation as local opposition mounts. Concerns include regulatory compliance and community impact.

The Lake County Data Center Opposition Coalition has issued a litigation hold against Grayslake related to the T5 data center project. Although no lawsuit has been filed, attorney Chloe Russell anticipates legal action in the coming months.
The T5 development, planned to cover 10 million square feet and include up to 20 buildings, has generated significant local opposition amid concerns about regulatory oversight and environmental impacts, particularly regarding wetlands. Grayslake's leadership, including Mayor Elizabeth Davies, defends the project citing potential tax revenues of $300 million and aligned development goals.
However, growing scrutiny from local officials and citizens may complicate progress, particularly as the county has enacted a moratorium on data centers in unincorporated areas. The outcome of potential legal challenges could set a precedent for future data center projects in the region.
