Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham has announced plans to establish Carrington as a national green energy hub, featuring projects such as a liquid air energy storage plant and a green hydrogen facility. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to re-industrialize the region, which includes the Greater Manchester Baccalaureate work placement program that secured over 1,000 placements this September. Burnham also called for political reforms in Westminster to enhance collaboration among parties in addressing long-term challenges.

Mayor Andy Burnham has outlined a vision to re-industrialize Greater Manchester, emphasizing Carrington as a key national green-energy hub. Carrington is home to three major projects: a liquid air energy storage plant, large-scale battery storage, and one of the UK's first green hydrogen plants.
Burnham identified Carrington as part of a broader strategy involving four additional priority growth areas: digital and tech, creative and media, life sciences, and advanced materials. He also highlighted the Greater Manchester Baccalaureate, a work placement initiative supported by over 300 employers, which achieved 1,045 placements this September.
Burnham criticized the political system in Westminster, advocating for substantial reforms, including proportional representation and a Senate for the nations and regions. He underscored the importance of collaboration among political parties to address long-term issues.
