Grimsby Community Energy received £100,000 from Great British Energy to invest in a battery energy storage system as part of a £1bn funding initiative for community energy projects across the UK. Power Hull is allocated £34,500 to launch Hull's first local energy club for purchasing locally generated clean electricity.
This funding announcement precedes the Local Power Plan, which aims to remove barriers to community energy projects. The initiative seeks to increase local ownership of renewable energy, similar to models seen in Germany.
