GS Caltex Invests 200 Billion Won in AI-Driven Refinery Overhaul
GS Caltex has completed a 60-day overhaul at its Yeosu refinery, employing AI and robotics to enhance efficiency and safety. This investment positions the company to minimize downtime and improve operational resilience in the refining sector.

GS Caltex's Yeosu refinery, processing 800,000 barrels of crude oil daily, underwent a major overhaul with a 200 billion Korean won investment. The two-month maintenance involved 3,000 workers daily and integrated AI and robotics to replace traditional labor-intensive methods.
Key innovations included the 'MOVision' app for managing motor-operated valves and robotic cleaning of heater internal tubes. Additionally, AI-powered CCTV improved safety by monitoring protective gear and equipment in high-risk areas. The refining sector recognizes AI-driven maintenance as vital for reducing downtime and enhancing safety amid a skilled labor shortage.
