Guinea Approves Major Mining and Energy Projects with Mali
Guinea has authorized a mining convention for bauxite extraction and the construction of an alumina refinery, alongside funding agreements for a 225 kVA electrical interconnection project with Mali. These initiatives are set to enhance regional energy integration.

On July 3, 2026, Guinea's President Mamadi Doumbouya signed two ordinances related to significant mining and energy projects. The first ordinance approves an amended mining convention for the development of Boffa North and South bauxite deposits, and the establishment of an alumina refinery in Boffa, involving Chalco Hong Kong Limited and other partners.
The second ordinance pertains to additional financing agreements for the Guinea-Mali 225 kVA electrical interconnection project, including a loan of 16.25 million units of account and a climate action grant of 4.875 million units of account from the African Development Fund. These developments are critical for regional energy integration efforts.
