Guinea President Doumbouya Retains Mines Minister in New Government Formation
Guinea President Mamady Doumbouya has retained Bouna Sylla as mines minister in his newly formed government following his recent election victory, marking the end of the transition to civilian rule. Alongside Sylla, Mariama Cire Sylla has been appointed as the new economy, finance, and budget minister, while Ibrahima Sory Tounkara and General Ahmed Mohamed Diallo take on roles as justice minister and minister of security, respectively. Guinea, rich in bauxite and iron ore, is advancing its mining projects, including a major initiative at Simandou.

Guinea President Mamady Doumbouya has retained Bouna Sylla as mines minister following his recent election victory, which concluded the transition to civilian rule. Doumbouya, who came to power in a coup in 2021 and was sworn in for a seven-year term last month, announced new appointments in his government.
Mariama Cire Sylla, previously agriculture minister and a former World Bank representative, will now lead the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Budget. Ibrahima Sory Tounkara, involved in a 2009 stadium massacre trial, has been appointed justice minister.
General Ahmed Mohamed Diallo takes on the role of minister of security and civil protection. Guinea is noted for having the world's largest bauxite reserves and significant untapped iron ore deposits at Simandou, where a major mining project commenced in November.
