Five international companies submitted bids by the May deadline, with OEC USA, GE Vernova, and Worley presenting the highest bid of approximately $800 million.

The Guyana Government is currently establishing a technical evaluation team for the Amaila Falls Hydropower Project, which seeks to achieve a minimum capacity of 165 MW. Bids closed in May, with five companies participating: the highest bid was from a joint venture of OEC USA, GE Vernova, and Worley at $800,060,842; followed by CAMCE-CMEC from China at $668 million.
Other bidders included China Gezhouba Group ($432 million), Sinohydro Corporation ($416 million), and a joint venture between Afcon Infrastructure Limited and Scandian Infrastructure AB, which did not disclose a bid amount. This project has faced delays since its inception in 2011, with previous attempts blocked politically. The government is under pressure to demonstrate progress on this key infrastructure initiative, part of its Low Carbon Development Strategy.
