Gwayi-Shangani Mini-Hydro Project Advances to Civil Works Stage
The Gwayi-Shangani mini-hydro power station in Zimbabwe has entered the civil works phase, achieving 63% overall progress. This project aims to generate 10 megawatts of electricity and enhance the country's clean energy capacity.

The civil works phase of the Gwayi-Shangani mini-hydro power station, located in Hwange District, has commenced, with overall construction progress at approximately 63%. The facility will utilize two five-megawatt turbines to produce a total of 10 megawatts of electricity.
Engineering work includes the erection of structural columns, with a net head of about 42 meters facilitating energy generation. The project is supported by monthly funding of around US$5 million from Treasury, and completion is anticipated by year-end. The Gwayi-Shangani initiative is expected to provide economic benefits through enhanced irrigation, tourism, and improved water supply for Bulawayo and its neighboring areas.
