H2Au Seeks Exploration Rights for 3.4 Million Acres of Natural Hydrogen in South Africa
H2Au, a UK-based natural hydrogen company, is seeking exclusive exploration rights for 3.4 million acres in South Africa's Bushveld region, with applications currently under review by the Petroleum Agency SA. If approved, the three-year licenses will allow the firm to explore natural hydrogen, which has shown promising potential as a low-cost, low-carbon energy source. H2Au is also pursuing partnerships in the power, heat, and fertiliser sectors to support funding and development efforts.

H2Au, a UK-based natural hydrogen company, is applying for exclusive exploration rights to approximately 3.4 million acres in South Africa's Bushveld region. The Petroleum Agency SA has accepted two applications, pending final approval from the Minister of Mines and Energy.
If granted, the three-year licenses will enable H2Au to explore for natural hydrogen, where prior studies have indicated promising results. The firm is also engaging with potential offtakers in the power, heat, and fertiliser sectors and is seeking joint venture partners for funding and development.
H2Au has previously completed its Technical Cooperation Permits on time and on budget, demonstrating its capability in natural hydrogen exploration. Natural hydrogen, formed through geological processes, is noted for its potential as a low-cost, low-carbon energy source, with significant reserves estimated globally.
