Hack of Chinese Supercomputer Exposes 10 Petabytes of Sensitive Data
A hacker has reportedly stolen over 10 petabytes of data from China's National Supercomputing Center, potentially the largest data breach in the country to date. The breach highlights significant vulnerabilities in China's cybersecurity infrastructure as the nation competes for technological supremacy.

A breach at the National Supercomputing Center (NSCC) in Tianjin may involve the theft of more than 10 petabytes of sensitive information, including defense documents and missile schematics. Cybersecurity experts indicate that the hacker, using a compromised VPN, extracted data over six months by employing a botnet, distributing the load to minimize detection risks.
The hacker's account, FlamingChina, has offered samples of the dataset for thousands of dollars, with full access set at hundreds of thousands, payable in cryptocurrency. This incident underscores ongoing concerns regarding cybersecurity weaknesses in China, acknowledged in its 2025 National Security White Paper as a priority for improvement.
