Hall County Commissioners to Vote on 180-Day Extension for High-Density Zoning Moratorium and Data Centers
Hall County commissioners plan to vote on a resolution to extend the suspension of high-density residential rezonings and pause data center applications. The current moratorium, in effect since August 29, 2025, is set to expire on February 25, 2026. If approved, the extension will last 180 days and include a halt on special use permits for data centers, following public backlash against a proposed data center project last year. The vote is scheduled for February 26, 2026.

Hall County commissioners will vote on February 26, 2026, to extend the current moratorium on high-density residential rezonings and to suspend data center applications for another 180 days. The existing moratorium, effective since August 29, 2025, is set to end on February 25, 2026.
This extension will include a pause on special use permits for data centers, which have faced public opposition, notably a withdrawal by Project Turbo last year regarding a data center proposal on O'Kelley Road. The extension aims to allow further review of the county's unified development code.
