HanseWerk Natur Establishes Fossil-Free Heating in Langenhorn
HanseWerk Natur's new heat supply system in Langenhorn, operational since Fall 2025, replaces gas heating and provides cost savings. The initiative, utilizing a large heat pump, reduces CO2 emissions by approximately 340 tons annually, demonstrating a scalable model for rural heat networks.

Since Fall 2025, HanseWerk Natur has implemented a fossil-free heating supply system in Langenhorn, utilizing a large heat pump to replace natural gas heating. This system serves households, a daycare, a school, and a sports hall, leading to annual CO2 savings of around 340 tons.
Customers are experiencing reduced heating costs, with an average savings of about 440 euros per year for a typical household. The heat pump operates efficiently, converting one kilowatt-hour of electricity into 2.7 kilowatt-hours of heat. This project is part of a broader strategy to transition heat networks to renewable sources, with six additional projects planned in the region.
