The WaterWorks System in Harlingen has approved an agreement to supply over 4.5 million gallons per day of effluent water to RGV Property LLC for a potential data center project. City officials clarified that no data center has formally committed to Harlingen and no project is currently under consideration by the city commission.
Mayor Norma Sepulveda emphasized that while there is interest from a data center, it does not guarantee project advancement. The agreement stipulates that RGV Property LLC will pay 75 cents per 1,000 gallons and $1.5 million annually if usage exceeds the daily average.
WaterWorks releases around 5.5 million gallons daily into Arroyo Colorado, and the agreement aims to ensure responsible water use without affecting drinking water supplies. The city is committed to evaluating projects based on their utility and environmental impact.
