Harwin and Nicomatic Partner with The New Materialist for Nivora Biomaterials Initiative
Harwin and Nicomatic have partnered with The New Materialist to launch the Nivora initiative aimed at developing regenerative biomaterials to replace traditional plastics in the connector industry. This partnership addresses sustainability challenges by promoting bio-based polymers as alternatives to petroleum-based plastics, with a goal of significantly reducing plastic waste generated in connector manufacturing. The initiative will focus on enhancing mechanical, thermal, and electrical properties of these new materials.

Harwin and Nicomatic have launched the Nivora initiative with The New Materialist to develop regenerative biomaterials to replace plastics in the connector industry. This effort aims to reduce environmental impact by transitioning from petroleum-based plastics to bio-based polymers.
With 1.2 billion connectors shipped globally last year, projected to reach 1.8 billion by 2028, the initiative intends to improve sustainability in the industry. Initial tests will evaluate the mechanical, thermal, and electrical properties of these materials. The project emphasizes collaboration, local resource integration, and circular economy principles to foster innovation.
