Hawaii Water Service is conducting a feasibility study for a decentralized wastewater treatment plant in Kapalua to enhance local water security and reduce drought vulnerability. The study, supported by Carollo Engineering Inc., will assess potential sites, treatment technologies, regulatory considerations, and costs. Expected to conclude in fall 2026, the evaluation aims to determine the operational and sustainability benefits of local wastewater treatment.

Hawaii Water Service is advancing a feasibility study for a decentralized wastewater treatment plant in Kapalua, aimed at supplying recycled water for irrigation to bolster local water security. The study, conducted by Carollo Engineering Inc., will evaluate the potential benefits of local wastewater treatment, including site identification and advanced treatment technologies.
Expected to complete in fall 2026, the assessment will also consider regulatory requirements, land needs, and operational costs. Hawaii Water Service operates another wastewater treatment facility in Pukalani, which processes about 200,000 gallons of wastewater daily.
