HD KSOE and Schneider Electric Collaborate on Floating Data Centers; US Explores Naval Cooperation with South Korea
HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering has partnered with Schneider Electric to develop floating data center technologies. This collaboration aims to address land scarcity and cooling costs by leveraging offshore platforms for server operations, marking a significant shift in data center infrastructure.

HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE) and Schneider Electric have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop floating data centers (FDCs) optimized for offshore environments. The partnership will focus on engineering solutions and technologies for data center power and cooling systems, addressing critical issues in land availability and operational costs.
Concurrently, the US has engaged South Korean shipbuilders HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and Hanwha Ocean to assess naval vessel capabilities under the MASGA initiative. This outreach includes requests for information on destroyer designs and construction capacities, indicating a potential deepening of defense cooperation.
Industry response may also provide insights into ongoing US-South Korea projects. The US Navy aims to expand its fleet significantly by 2054, necessitating substantial investments in shipbuilding.
