The Unified Waste Management Association of Crete (ESDAC) has revised the Strategic Environmental Impact Study for the Circular Economy Park at Mavros Spilios, unanimously removing all high-disturbance activities, including waste incineration. This decision, initiated by Mayor Alexis Kalokairinos, aligns the project with current planning rules and community concerns over waste treatment technologies.

The revised framework will emphasize lower-impact processing methods, supporting Crete's long-term waste management strategy. Additionally, ESDAC approved its 2026 budget, crucial for project continuation amid ongoing local and environmental challenges.
