HIF Global and Electric Hydrogen Select Electrolyzer Amidst Challenges for Hydrogen Projects in 2025
HIF Global and Electric Hydrogen have finalized a deal for electrolyzer selection as hydrogen projects face significant challenges in 2025. Many hydrogen initiatives are being delayed or halted due to high costs and weak demand, prompting investors to reassess or abandon plans.
This includes RWE's withdrawal from a $10 billion green hydrogen project in Namibia due to insufficient demand declarations from European buyers. Similarly, Statkraft announced a halt to new green hydrogen projects, citing market uncertainty.
Neste also canceled a 120 MW electrolyzer installation in Finland, and Trafigura scrapped plans for a green hydrogen facility in South Australia. While hydrogen remains crucial for industries like chemicals and steel, the focus is shifting towards more feasible applications, indicating a move from ambitious visions to targeted, niche solutions in the hydrogen economy.
