Himachal Pradesh Generates 2,534 Million Units of Renewable Energy, Earns Rs 1,004 Crore
Himachal Pradesh has generated 2,534 million units of electricity from renewable projects, earning Rs 1,004 crore. Hydropower, including projects like the 100 MW Sainj and 111 MW Sawra-Kuddu, contributed 2,419.97 million units and Rs 969.95 crore.
The state aims to install 500 MW of solar capacity in two years, with existing projects generating 114.27 million units and Rs 34.83 crore. The government is promoting solar investments through a new scheme and has allocated 728.4 MW to Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited.
A green hydrogen plant is under development, and solar off-grid systems have been installed in remote areas. The Supreme Court ruled to increase royalty payments from JSW Energy for the Karcham Wangtoo project, expected to add Rs 150 crore annually. The government aims for over 90% of energy needs to come from renewables.
