The first unit of the 450 MW Shongtong Hydropower Project in Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh, is set to be commissioned by December 2023. The Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL) reported 81.91% completion of the feeder tunnel construction and has begun hydro-mechanical works.

The project aims for full commissioning by December 2026. A Cabinet Sub-Committee meeting led by Minister Jagat Singh Negi reviewed progress and directed faster work on the Lippa project. The investigation into the death of Chief Engineer Vimal Negi is ongoing, with the CBI's SIT involved.
