Hiringa and MyFarm Develop Ruakākā Hydrogen Hub to Reduce Carbon Emissions
Hiringa and MyFarm are developing a hydrogen hub in Ruakākā, New Zealand, aimed at cutting carbon emissions. The project includes a refuelling station and utilizes hydrogen-fuelled trucks for transporting solar panels, expected to prevent 10 tonnes of carbon emissions pre-launch.
MyFarm invested $17.7 million from around 70 investors to support Hiringa's solar-to-hydrogen initiative. The project will generate power from five solar farms, with a 10-year agreement for Hiringa to purchase 100% of the energy produced.
Construction progressed quickly, moving from concept to construction in just over 12 months. The hub is part of a broader strategy to support low-emission transport across sectors, including rail and marine, aligning with New Zealand's decarbonisation goals. The project is anticipated to create 50 jobs, with no public opposition recorded.
