Historic 1.9 GW Renewable Energy Boost in Western Australia
Western Australia is set to receive a significant energy transition with 1.9 GW of renewable capacity and 482 MW of battery storage. This $5 billion investment will create thousands of jobs, support local economies, and facilitate the state’s exit from coal by 2030.

The Albanese and Cook Labor Governments have announced an investment of $5 billion in 10 renewable energy projects in Western Australia, providing 1.9 GW of generation capacity and 482 MW of battery storage by 2030. This includes six wind farms and a solar-battery hybrid installation, enough to power over 1 million households and support 400,000 households for four hours during peak demand.
The projects are expected to create 7,000 construction jobs and 500 maintenance jobs, while contributing hundreds of millions to local economies. This initiative, driven by the Capacity Investment Scheme, aims to transition WA from coal-fired power and reduce emissions. The successful projects will further enhance investment in cleaner energy across the Western Energy Market.
