Hobart Launches $2 Million Home Improvement Rebate Program Funded by Amazon Data Center
Hobart homeowners can access rebates of up to $10,000 for exterior and $5,000 for interior energy-saving projects. The initiative, backed by $2 million from city funds derived from an Amazon Data Services payment, aims to enhance property values and energy efficiency.

Hobart has initiated a rebate program allowing homeowners to claim up to $10,000 for exterior energy-saving projects and $5,000 for interior improvements. The program is funded by a $2 million allocation from the city, stemming from a $47 million payment from Amazon Data Services related to a new $11 billion data center.
Eligible projects include roofs, siding, insulation, and HVAC systems, requiring proof of homeowner's insurance and residency. Work must begin within 60 days of approval, and rebates are contingent on inspections.
Liens will be imposed for five years post-completion to deter property flipping. As of May 14, 36 applications totaling $157,000 were approved, indicating initial community engagement. The program aims to stabilize neighborhoods and improve home energy efficiency.
