Hong Kong Government Launches Five-Year Waste Reduction and Recycling Plan from 2026
The Hong Kong Government will introduce a five-year waste reduction and recycling plan starting in 2026-27, aiming to enhance green development. The plan includes expanding a 24/7 self-service recycling network and leveraging technology to extract valuable materials from waste. Additionally, the first registration tax for electric vehicles will be waived until March 2028, while support for green industries and hydrogen development is emphasized. The Government aims for carbon neutrality by 2050 and is implementing various projects under the $400 million Green Tech Fund.
The Hong Kong Government will implement a five-year waste reduction and recycling plan from 2026-27, focusing on green development and expanding the recycling network with self-service facilities. Technology will be utilized to extract materials from waste for green product manufacturing.
The first registration tax for electric commercial vehicles and motorcycles will be waived until March 2028, but the concession for private electric cars will not be extended after March 2024. The Government aims for carbon neutrality by 2050 and is supporting green industry development and hydrogen certification. Various projects under the $400 million Green Tech Fund have been approved, including wastewater treatment technology and fuel cell technology.
