HP Government Confirms Dual Hydel Projects Draw from Same Source, Faces NGT Scrutiny
The Himachal Pradesh government has acknowledged that two hydroelectric projects in Kasol utilize the same water source, raising concerns over environmental compliance. This revelation is significant as it suggests possible regulatory evasion to sidestep cumulative environmental assessments.

The Himachal Pradesh jal shakti department reported that the Kasol small hydro project and the Grahan-Kasol hydro project draw water from the same stream in Parvati Valley. The Kasol project is owned by Beena Butail, while the Grahan-Kasol project belongs to Dinesh Butail.
The two projects were processed independently despite their shared water source, raising allegations of project splitting to avoid comprehensive environmental scrutiny. The National Green Tribunal is addressing complaints from local residents regarding construction impacts without proper assessments. Concerns include risks to stability, water security, and wildlife, prompting calls for work suspension until further evaluations are conducted.
