Huayou Cobalt Commits $300M to Arcadia Lithium Project in Zimbabwe
Huayou Cobalt's $300 million investment in Zimbabwe's Arcadia Lithium Mine will enhance local production capacity for lithium concentrate. This initiative supports the country's strategic goals in electric vehicle battery manufacturing.

Huayou Cobalt is investing $300 million in the Arcadia Lithium Mine in Zimbabwe to establish a processing plant with a capacity of 400,000 tonnes of lithium concentrate annually. This follows the company's acquisition of majority ownership of the mine for $378 million, located 60 km east of Harare.
The project is expected to create at least 600 local jobs during construction, increasing to 900 during full-scale operations. This investment is aligned with Zimbabwe's National Development Strategy 1, aiming to position the country as a significant contributor to global electric vehicle battery supply chains. The region's economic development may significantly benefit from enhanced lithium production capabilities.
