Hubei province's shipbuilding sector is focusing on green and intelligent development, highlighted by the upcoming delivery of the Gezhouba, a 10,000-ton-class all-electric bulk carrier, in March 2026. This vessel features advanced navigation technology for remote operation and obstacle avoidance.

The China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) 712 Institute is enhancing marine propulsion systems with new energy technologies. Hubei's initiatives include optimizing vessel propulsion, advancing autonomous navigation, and expanding into international markets, with significant achievements such as the world's largest all-electric cruise ship and China's first hydrogen fuel-powered vessel. In 2025, the shipbuilding industry reported an output value of 72.71 billion yuan, a 17.3% increase, with green and intelligent ships making up 75.8% of new orders.
