Humboldt Bay Harbor District Plans Heavy-Duty Marine Terminal for Offshore Wind
The Humboldt Bay Harbor District is advancing plans for a Heavy Lift Marine Terminal on the Samoa Peninsula, crucial for offshore wind development. A public meeting on June 24 aims to gather community input for the project’s environmental impact report.

The Humboldt Bay Harbor District is preparing environmental documents for a Heavy Lift Marine Terminal to support offshore wind initiatives, with a draft environmental impact report (EIR) expected by spring 2027. The project, initiated in 2020, is intended to facilitate the production and shipment of components for offshore wind turbines and has received a $426 million grant from the Department of Transportation.
Community engagement is a priority, with a public meeting scheduled for June 24 to solicit feedback before the notice of preparation is recirculated later this summer. Despite previous challenges, including the expiration of a partnership with Crowley Wind Services, the district remains committed to the project, emphasizing the importance of local support and accurate information dissemination regarding offshore wind development.
