Hungarian Research Network HUN-REN Restructures to Boost Scientific Output and Innovation
The Hungarian Research Network HUN-REN is undergoing a restructuring to improve scientific output and citizen welfare, inspired by Singapore's achievements in science. Key initiatives include the launch of HUNRENTECH, a technology transfer company, and a venture capital fund offering grants of 150,000 euros to researchers. Additionally, Hungary plans to establish its first AI research institute by 2026 and develop a new supercomputer.

The Hungarian Research Network HUN-REN is being restructured to enhance scientific performance and citizen welfare, as stated by President Balázs Gulyás. The aim is to replicate Singapore's success in science.
A technology transfer company, HUNRENTECH, has been established to support idea development. A venture capital fund will provide researchers with initial grants of 150,000 euros, a unique incentive in Europe.
HUN-REN currently holds about 140 patents, significantly lower than its potential, given its 3,400 scientists. The establishment of Hungary's first AI research institute is planned for 2026, alongside the construction of a new supercomputer named
