Hungary Advances Renewable Energy with Major Battery Storage Installation
Hungary is enhancing its renewable energy infrastructure with a significant battery storage solution to stabilize its grid. This initiative is crucial for managing the increasing solar and wind energy production in the country.

Hungary's renewable energy sector is experiencing growth with the installation of a 49.9 megawatt battery storage facility operated by ALTEO Group near Gyor. This facility, utilizing lithium-ion batteries from CATL, can store 99.8 megawatt-hours of electricity, primarily sourced from solar power.
The batteries provide immediate response to grid demands, enabling excess energy storage during peak solar output and release during peak consumption hours. The project is projected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 17,000 tons annually, with each storage unit designed for a service life of 15 years. This development is critical as Hungary expands its solar and wind capacity.
