Huntsville City Council Addresses Funding Shortfall for Wastewater Treatment Plant
Huntsville's N.B. Davidson Wastewater Treatment Plant project, estimated at $35-37 million, is stalled due to funding issues. The city has secured $1.75 million in grants but requires additional financial support to commence construction.

Huntsville City Council is seeking clarity on funding for the N.B. Davidson Wastewater Treatment Plant, a project that is 95% designed but lacks sufficient funds for construction. The estimated cost is between $35 million and $37 million, with $1.75 million in grants obtained so far, primarily for design.
A $5 million state disaster grant is being pursued, but no funding has been awarded yet. The city previously approved a $73 million bond for water and wastewater improvements in 2016; however, officials noted that this bond did not allocate funds specifically for the Davidson plant's construction.
Upgrades aim to modernize aging infrastructure and enhance reliability during heavy rainfall, supporting future growth in Huntsville's southern areas. Failure to secure necessary funding may delay essential improvements.
