Hydrogen Chloride Release at Wacker Chemical Plant in Tennessee Declared Not Dangerous
A hydrogen chloride release at the Wacker Chemical Plant in Bradley County, Tennessee, raised concerns among residents who were not informed to shelter-in-place. On Friday, a hydrogen chloride release occurred at the Wacker Chemical Plant in Bradley County, Tennessee. Officials from the Bradley County Office of Emergency Management stated that the levels of the chemical were not recordable and posed no danger to the community.
The initial shelter-in-place alert was issued only to Charleston residents at Wacker's request, causing confusion among nearby residents who did not receive notifications. The leaking lines were cleared using nitrogen, and an all-clear message was subsequently sent to all of Bradley County. Wacker is conducting an investigation into the incident.
