Hydrogen Hub Feasibility in Wissen Analyzed by TraForce
A study by the TraForce network indicates that establishing a hydrogen hub in Wissen is challenging due to various factors. Key recommendations include focusing on decentralized hydrogen production and enhancing regional climate protection activities.

The feasibility study by the TraForce network concludes that a centralized hydrogen production and consumption hub in Wissen is not viable. Potential hydrogen production sites include industrial areas along the A3 highway and other locations such as Bad Hönningen and Neuwied.
Challenges for Wissen include the inaccessibility of existing solar facilities, lack of a district heating network, and distance from main transport routes. Utsch emphasized the need for ongoing regional hydrogen initiatives and proposed the integration of hydrogen in future energy strategies.
The German gas network, spanning approximately 400,000 kilometers, could potentially support hydrogen infrastructure. The project receives €2.44 million in funding to assist local industries in adapting to energy transition demands. The initiative aims to enhance regional transformation strategies, focusing on sustainable production and alternative drive systems.
