Hydrostatic Test Successfully Completed at Tarbela 5th Extension Project
POWERCHINA has completed a joint hydrostatic test at the Tarbela 5th Extension Hydropower Project, a key milestone in expanding Pakistan's hydropower capacity. This project will add three 470 MW units, raising the total capacity of the Tarbela plant to 6,298 MW, enhancing energy supply stability in the region.

The hydrostatic test at the Tarbela 5th Extension Hydropower Project lasted 64 hours, with all results meeting standards. The tested structure includes one pressure relief pipe and three branch pipes, featuring a sphere diameter of 14.6 meters and a water-filled weight exceeding 12,000 tonnes.
This component is noted as the largest and most complex of its kind globally. Completion of this test reinforces the project's structural integrity and welding quality, crucial for the safe operation of the additional generating units. The project aims to expand Pakistan's hydropower capacity significantly, addressing long-term energy needs.
