HyproMag Opens Rare Earth Magnet Recycling Facility at Tyseley Energy Park, UK
In January 2026, a recycling facility for rare earth magnets began operations at Tyseley Energy Park in Birmingham, UK. Operated by HyproMag Ltd., a subsidiary of Mkango Resources, the facility combines recycling and magnet manufacturing using technology licensed exclusively from the University of Birmingham. The hydrogen-based process allows for the recycling of magnets from old devices without extensive disassembly, with a capacity to recover over 400 kg of rare earth alloys per charge and an annual capacity of 300 tons.

A rare earth magnet recycling facility commenced operations in January 2026 at Tyseley Energy Park in Birmingham, UK. HyproMag Ltd., a subsidiary of Mkango Resources, operates the facility, which integrates recycling with magnet manufacturing through a process called 'Hydrogen Processing of Magnet Scrap' developed at the University of Birmingham.
This hydrogen-based method disassembles magnets from old devices like electric motors without complex procedures. The facility can recover over 400 kg of rare earth alloys per charge, with an annual capacity of up to 300 tons, providing an environmentally friendly and cost-effective solution, reducing import dependence and supporting Europe's strategic resource supply.
