Hyundai Highlights Hydrogen's Role in Energy Transition at Madrid Hydrogen Day
Mark Freymüller, CEO of Hyundai Commercial Vehicles & Hydrogen Europe, emphasized hydrogen's essential role in the energy transition during the fourth Hydrogen Day in Madrid. He acknowledged that while companies like Stellantis and Renault Group have paused hydrogen investments, the pursuit of hydrogen technology continues.
Hyundai views hydrogen as a critical component not only for mobility but also for energy production, transport, and storage. Freymüller noted that hydrogen can complement battery technology, especially in heavy-duty vehicles.
He pointed out that the electrical grid is a bottleneck in energy transition; for instance, Germany lost 9.4 TWh of renewable energy due to grid limitations. He stressed the need for significant investments in grid infrastructure, advocating for a balanced approach to hydrogen and battery technologies. The company is launching a new Nexo vehicle with a range of 826 kilometers, reinforcing its commitment to hydrogen solutions.
