Hyundai Opens HTWO ENERGY Cheongju W2H Facility in South Korea
HTWO ENERGY Cheongju aims to produce 500 kg of hydrogen daily from wastewater sludge, expanding to 2 tons by 2030. The facility's central location in South Korea reduces supply chain costs compared to coastal hydrogen sources, potentially impacting local hydrogen economies.

Hyundai Motor Group has launched the HTWO ENERGY Cheongju facility, a waste-to-hydrogen (W2H) production site in South Korea. It will initially produce around 500 kilograms of hydrogen per day, sufficient for approximately 100 fuel cell electric vehicles or 30 hydrogen buses, with a target to increase production to two metric tons per day by 2030.
The facility is strategically located in Cheongju to minimize supply chain costs associated with coastal hydrogen. Future projects are planned in Hong Kong and Indonesia to adapt the W2H model to local waste streams. This facility exemplifies a circular economy approach, utilizing local resources to support community hydrogen needs.
