Hyundai's 2026 SUV Lineup: Innovations and Enhancements
Hyundai has unveiled significant updates to its SUV lineup for 2026, introducing new powertrains, electric models, and enhanced features across various segments. Notably, the brand is launching the Ioniq 9, a new electric three-row SUV equipped with a 110-kWh battery and Tesla's NACS charging port, offering rapid charging capabilities. The Ioniq 9 will be available in multiple configurations, ranging from a Long Range RWD model with 215 hp and a 335-mile range to a Performance AWD variant delivering 422 hp.
The compact SUV segment sees the popular Kona undergo a trim overhaul, simplifying to just two models: SEL Sport and SEL Premium, while also streamlining its electric options. The Kona Electric now features a standard 48.6-kWh battery with an estimated 200 miles of range.
Hyundai's hydrogen fuel cell vehicle, the Nexo, receives a redesign that enhances both performance and interior comfort. It boasts a larger hydrogen tank, improved electric motor output, and advanced driver assistance technologies. The Nexo's refueling convenience remains a key selling point, allowing for a fill-up in just 10 minutes, although the limited hydrogen infrastructure poses challenges.
The Palisade, Hyundai's three-row SUV, will now feature a new hybrid powertrain alongside a redesigned standard engine, increasing passenger and cargo capacities. The Palisade XRT model is tailored for off-road performance with enhanced ground clearance and all-terrain capabilities.
In terms of transmission updates, the Santa Cruz and Santa Fe models will transition to an eight-speed automatic, improving driving dynamics. Furthermore, towing capacity for the Tucson has been increased to 2,750 pounds.
