IAV and DEUTZ Launch Hydrogen-Powered 18-Ton Trucks in Logistics Project HyCET
IAV and DEUTZ have launched two hydrogen-powered 18-ton trucks as part of the HyCET project, marking a significant advancement in climate-neutral heavy-duty transport. The trucks will operate in daily logistics for DEUTZ and BMW, demonstrating the practicality of hydrogen combustion technology. The project, supported by the Federal Ministry of Transport, aims to establish hydrogen combustion as a robust solution for heavy goods transport.

IAV and DEUTZ have successfully transitioned two hydrogen-powered 18-ton trucks from testing to real-world logistics under the HyCET project, which is backed by the Federal Ministry of Transport. These trucks, based on the Daimler Econic platform and equipped with DEUTZ hydrogen engines, will be used in daily operations by DEUTZ and BMW.
IAV acted as the general contractor, ensuring system integration, safety validations, and road approval. The project illustrates the effectiveness of hydrogen combustion engines as a viable solution alongside battery-electric drives in heavy-duty transport, supporting future CO₂ emissions targets.
